Synopsis

Album Description
"From 1966, Raga Electric is a piece for detuned guitar and howler monkey vocals, recorded in the wake of a Pandit Pran Nath concert, although it sounds as much like an exorcism of his spirit as a celebration of it...it's quite a sound." - THE WIRE Although Henry Flynt has worked with Yoko Ono, John Cale, LaMonte Young, and the Velvet Underground, for some thirty years the violinist/guitarist/wild man vocalist produced a large body of work in relative obscurity. Raga Electric is a sevenpiece distillation of some of Flynt's most adventurous, audacious, outsider musical endeavors.

CD Reviews

Interesting piece of experimental music

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Henry Flynt is that kind of man that one's consider a genius while others a lunatic. Since i admire those two qualities mixed on one person, i had to know Henry Flynt's work better. I started for this Raga Electric - the music is like the name, a 9 minute raga-mantric-with electric guitar. The chanting is by Henry himself, like a indian madman or a Ginsberg without any words and just pot in his head. The other sound pieces are alike (except Free Alto focused on alto sax), and more focused on henry ability to create voice inferno, he really does some suffermale experiments, and i think this cd soon will be one of my favourite work soundtracks. Have fun, i'm having!"
