Taking advantage of the attention stirred up by the Laurel Canyon Ramblers, Sugar Hill finally reissued Pedersen's 1984 solo project, Lonesome Feeling, on CD. This is the album which anticipated the Desert Rose Band by bringing together Pedersen, Chris Hillman, and Jay Dee Maness on material ranging from Gordon Lightfoot folksongs to Flatt & Scruggs bluegrass classics, as well as a pair of Pedersen originals. The arrangements balanced the bluegrass of Pedersen's banjo and Hillman's mandolin with the honky-tonk of Maness's pedal steel and a tasteful rhythm section. As an early example of bluegrass-with-drums, and as a rare glimpse at Pedersen's personal vision, it's well worth a second listen. --Geoffrey Himes

CD Reviews

Best country/rock/folk
Dennis P Patterson | Fond du Lac, Wisconsin United States | 09/08/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Herb Pederson should be no stranger to those who follow this genre. He has lent great suporting vocals to many great country artists for years. He's a good instrumentalist besides. I love this album for the great song writing and the unmistakeable wail of Bob Worford's guitar on several selections.
Consider the music softer and more melodic than what we get from most others today. But that's okay. This is so well polished and musical, we need more stuff like this. It seems this type of sound may be a vanishing art. Herb's voice was made for the songs and vice versa. Enjoy!"

"This has been a favorite record of mine since the mid-80's, when I bought the vinyl. "The Homecoming" and "Even the Worst of Us" are real gems....worth the whole cd, which is great in itself."
A classic

"I've loved this since it came out, never tired of it. Seamless. Recommended. It's great to have Herb up front vocally!"
