Product DescriptionHerbie Hancock was a child prodigy at the age of seven and even soloing in the first movement of a Mozart piano concerto with the Chicago Symphony at the age of 11. In 61 he joined the quintet of Donald Byrd and Art Pepper which is documented on this cd. In 63 he became a member of Miles Davis group in time for the Seven Steps To Heaven sessions. Herbie was one of the earliest champions of the Rhodes electric piano and Hohner clavinet. Co-leader Donlad Byrd (tp) and Pepper Adams left Detroit in the fifties and headed to New York. They played mostly as quintet with Laymon Jackson (b), Jimmy Cobb (dr) and HerbieHancock (p).This album was recorded in 1961 and presents a very energetic young Hancock.
