"This is a different outing for Don Byron, and likewise for the Neufeld Occhpinti Jazz Orchestra. If you're familiar with either artists' previous works, then you know exactly what to expect-a departure from their previous works. NOJO, playing original compositions from the bandleaders Paul Neufeld and Michael Occhpinti, manages to find their own voice amongst a slew of big bands whose repertoire is limited to only jazz standards. The compositions are a unique culmination of a variety of jazz and non-jazz musical styles, and are performed masterfully by their "orchestra." What's more, the songs are specifically written to incorporate Don Byron's adventurous clarinet and bass clarinet playing.Don Byron produces in spades on this album. His improvisatory playing shines with the backdrop of NOJO, and the chemistry between his and the band members is phenominal. This is a collaboration in which the whole is greater than the parts - and when the parts are as incredible as NOJO and Don Byron, this is something amazing, indeed."
