"If you missed out on these guys back in the day and can appreciate good, hard driving chord-based hard rock, then take a chance and go for this. If you dig old Dokken, XYZ, and Hurricane, then you will probably appreciate the fun contained on this disc. I think these guys were way underrated. Trust me, great guitar!"
3.5 stars - a forgotten hard rock album

"1990's Tear the House Down was the debut (and only) release from Hollywood (by way of Minneapolis) hair metal band Hericane Alice. Similar to Baton Rouge, Hericane Alice's sound treads a fine line between the polished melodic rock of Dokken and the raunch & roll of L.A. Guns.
This kind of 80's style party rock isn't anything new, but Hericane Alice does it well. There are plenty of shout-along rock anthems (Shake, Shake, Shout is my favorite), and Too Late is a better than average power ballad. The band stuck pretty close to the hair metal formula, but what they lack in originality they make up for with an energetic performance.
It's a good album overall, but at this point Tear the House Down is really only going to be of interest to serious 80's rock fans.
NOTE: Wounded Bird reissued Tear the House Down in 2008. Like all Wounded Bird reissues, it has not been digitally remastered, nor does it have any bonus material. It's great to see this forgotten album back in print, but if you already own the 1990 version there's no need to replace it.
