"Hernan's Master Series offered deep progressive sound with solid mixing and dark beats layered one on top of another. Master series was great as a mix, but no tracks really jumped out at you; nonetheless, it was a solid compilation that stood above many electronic releases at the time.
Sequential is finally here and it surpasses master series with seamless mixing and top notch tracks that jump right at you. Sequential sticks with progressive, yet with a new modern upgraded feel added to it. The mix is a pure success and captures in my mind a perfect night at a club. It is a like a nice mixed crowd in early 20s to early 30s, the sound is not too dark while not too upbeat, it is crowded yet not too packed, the drinks are expensive yet bartenders are friendly, it has some electro yet it is still progressive. Hernan is a true master behind the turntables and Sequential is a showcase of his talent.
I wish Crobar NY makes him a monthly resident, so I can get to see some more of his live sets. I highly recommend seeing him live as he isn't as known in US as well as in South America. Going to see PVD or Tiesto in NY is not a very pleasant experience since you can barely move in a club, while Hernan will present a perfect club experience, for now at least. I saw John Digweed at Pawn Shop Miami during WMC2006 and Hernan was standing right outside the club, I don't think anyone in the line recognized him, but that is slowly going to change as he is a emerging as a top notch talent in the sea of Djs, while sticking to his sound without coming over the dark side of mainstream electronic music..."
I'm in love

"I'm not a music expert. I can't discuss character or depth or nuances with any confidence. My gauge is purely subjective. All I know is that when I listen to anything this man does, I am the coolest person walking the face of this Earth."

"...the Sirens, beckoning in beautiful tones, luring even the strongest men into shipwreck upon their shores. Hernan Cattaneo, widely known as one of South America's most successful progressive DJs, could just about accomplish the same - at least, in my opinion. Sequential testifies to this: Each disc is a superbly mixed sequence of superbly chosen tracks by superb artists. Need I say more? Well, perhaps.
From the very introductory sound of disc one, the intricacy and brilliance with which the beats are placed becomes self-evident; so, too, does this happen when the mixing is considered This mix radiates 'smoothness' all around it. The disc is so revealing and yet lacks every bit of unnecessary audio input other DJs seem to let seep into their mixes. Disc one's opening track, Gui Boratto's "Arquipelago," has such a devious and mesmerizing tone to it - combining a unique bassline with some hard-knocks and cresendo's. It instantly hypnotizes and Cattaneo seems to flawlessly lead from this track into Petersky's "F**k Them All". During this transition disc one has begun its fantastic and unmistakable journey - guided by seemingly impeccable track choices, a few of which include Paolo Mojo's "1983," and "Wonka" by Way Out West. I have seen plenty a DJ simply BUTCHER tracks by W.O.W., but Cattaneo makes the track feel cosily at home in this stunning flow of nearly-flawless track selection.
Disc two is just as good, if not better! Honest, I would pay 18.99 for the first disc alone. On the second mix, we discover a CD with a slightly denser and thicker aura which remains consistently enjoyable and hypnotic throughout the entirety of its twelve superb tracks. I want to say that beginning the album with "Beastman" by Bushwacka! I found incredibly unique, yet it gets the job done. Scratch that. It literally MAKES the beginning of the album. From the moment that beat drops, there is no going back until that fateful moment when "Sirocco" fades into silent obscurity. Other noteable selections from disc two include Derek Howell's "Cram It Up Your Cram Hole" (If you say so, Derek...) and the Luke Chable remix of "Two Full Moons And A Trout".
This is such a superb recording - infused with sexily smooth, hypnotizing and consistent... well, everything - that I cannot believe it took me this long to stumble upon Cattaneo. I'd place the quality of his sound amongst the likes of few others... one example might be Nick Warren, but that is the only comparison that comes immediately to my mind.
Bottom line, Hernan's sexy smooth rhythms warrant the purchase of this release; I believe it will change your perception of not only the artist, but of progressive trance genre itself and the direction it is heading towards.
"Renaissance: Sequential" is orchestrated electronic genius.

"Wow i'm impressed by this set, this is my first hernan cattaneo cd i bought and it bangs. This guy has really good taste in music, no cheese!!! The mixing flows pretty good too.
I own alot of deep dish cd's and love them but this is better.
My favorite tracks are 1 4 7 9 and 12 on cd1
I'm not so sure of my favorite tracks on cd2 because its so damn good.
cd1 starts out with some great house beats and basslines, and all after that it just keeps upbeat he keeps the rythem going.
cd2 starts out with deep melodic tech house, and then gets a little more progressive at the ending 4 tracks. but still a little techy.
I'm buying all of Hernans cd's cant wait.
Over and over again i listen to this cd and each time it gets better and better. It's the kind of music that grows on you. I dont mean an acquired taste.
It says on the cd booklet that he's trying to develop a global vide, a style that captures an emotive response in any country and club. And i think he's done just that.
Those nasty breaks and cuts on cd 2 are just euphoric!!!!
He really brings it with the 3rd track on cd 2. "two full moons and a trout" sets things in motion and the mixing between that track and "destiny" really gets my head bobbing.(My neck hurts after i play this cd.)
And on cd1 track 12 "passing lights" OMFG!!!!!! thats the best bass line i have ever heard in my life.
It just takes you for a ride. It hits you with a fast almost rock like bass and then it holds you with a deeper bass line and hits you again. Euphoric!!!!!!!!!
Its hard to explain.
Anyway I dont get why hernan isnt more popular, he's climbing his way to the top. I hope he gets in the top 5 dj's. right now he's number 11. Watchout digweed!
Anyone giving less than 5 stars doesnt understand good music or their ears dont work right.
But you dont even need ears to enjoy "passing lights" you can just feel it.
