"For way too many years, Australian hip-hop sounded plain awkward - mostly because Australian artists were spending too much time trying to sound like their Nth. American counterparts. Of course, the accent gave them away and everything just came across lame.In this decade we are privileged to be witnessing the birth of real Australian hip-hop. Distinctly Australian with Oz lingo, issues and sayings, distinctly groovy with elegant, jazz-influenced mixing that puts anything from Europe to shame and thought-provoking lyrics that don't get bogged down in the kind of market-driven pretentiousness that too often mars Nth American pop-rap. The Hilltop Hoods have been leading this Oz hip-hop birth for the better part of 10 years and now, they're hitting their stride with this classic. Smooth, lyrically genius, samples from everywhere (everything from Dudley Moore and Melanie Safka to flute solos that'd make St. Germain envious) looped and stitched together seemlessly. Bound to demand listening with the "repeat" button taped into the "on" position."

Real Hip-Hop

"With hip-hop being one of my favorite genres I get sick of all the annoying sex oriented thug garbage that American radio stations play non-stop, which is always giving hip-hop a bad name. Fortunatley, there are artists out there like MF Doom, Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Gorillaz, Danger Mouse, and the Hilltop Hoods that show how hip-hop is just as much a form of music as any other genre is.



The Hoods' music is jazzy, soulful, and it's quick and witty lyrics flow beautifully. The Hilltop Hoods easily put to shame any mainstream rapper in the states. This group has hardly any recognition in the over here, which is unfortunate since they're truly amazing. Definatley check these guys out if you like hip-hop, or maybe even give them a try if you aren't a fan of the genre. A most excellent album indeed."
