CD Reviews

Punch of thrash

"Again and again, and again... Hirax never dies. This is another portion on real thrash from the 80-s embraced into good modern well-produced sound form. First two-three songs provoke different feelings as if this album is a bit worse than the previuos one, but then they do their best, and you understand that the beginning of the album is just cool: intricate, catchy and very, very thrashy. For today I'd say: Hirax+Slayer=Thrashofalltimes!"

"Hirax is the real deal. If you're like me, you've been swindled countless times by recent albums by both modern and classic thrash bands that claim they are a throwback to the pure thrash sound. Well, the new Hirax is a breath of fresh(or old?) air as they return to kick your teeth down your throat with El Rostro De La Muerte.

Hirax's first few albums are classic in their own right, and as much as I like them, I do prefer the resurrected Hirax of recent years. The original Hirax material, while good, all kinda sounded the same to me. Hell, Katon De Pena practically sang every song the same way. El Rostro has a good mix of lightning fast thrashers, midpaced tunes(well, the title track pretty much), and even for the purist fans, a couple of short 1-2 minute thrash bursts like their classic material. There's also an instrumental piano tune, that while decent, really stands out like a sore thumb amongst an otherwise very heavy album.

Hirax was never a top name in thrash, but with this new album they've definitely released something that rivals and even surpasses a lot of what's out there in the thrash scene today. The real deal!!"
