A new guilty pleasure classic

"Holly Wynnette resembles a Russ Meyers actress who somebody decided to give a recording deal to. She's a throwback to a time when big breasts were real, eyeliner was thick, and vapor-voiced producers' darlings like Claudine somehow put out album after album. After the opening track, the obvious bid for a discount SHeDAISY-esque single, the album comes into its own as a recording that exists outside of time. It was made in 2001, but it sounds like it could just as easily have been made in 1981 -- something you'd come across in a bargain bin and buy as a joke ... then secretly fall in love with. Holly's pleasant, wispy voice is always double-tracked (at least!), and the songs, mostly written by one of her producers, are either catchy confections or steamy Hollywood come-ons with fake Spanish guitars that mean some kind of seduction is taking place. Holly herself comes off as committed as she can be, but there's an innocence to her, like she's not exactly sure what she's doing --like she's actually a really great gal who, because she has no really clear vision of her own, wound up as some slick, '70s-era film producer's idea of what a pop singer should be. The only reason I didn't give it five stars, for pure entertainment value, is because the spell begins to evaporate toward the end of the album. But for the first two thirds of My Future Ex-Boyfriend, you'll be singing along and vamping around your home as if you knew the words all along. God bless Holly Wynnette!"

"I listened to this album at least twice and unfortunately it just never seemed to get better.Attractive as holly is, there is just a lack of quality in the way this album is presented.None of the songs are of any stand out quality although it is interesting that 5 of them were written by albert hagar, the co-producer of this album.Talk about having your cake and eating it too!
The arrangements on this album a little better than a songwriters demo and this is particularly noticable with the cover of the journey classic "Faithfully." Somehow the placement of the fiddles in the intro loop is just plain annoying.
There is also a complete lack of emotion with the vocals on all the tracks.Even though holly is by no means a vocal powerhouse, so much more could have been drawn out of her to at least make it seem like she had lived theses songs.
It just seems so sad that so much attention was paid to holly's "terri clark like resemblance" and absolutely nothing to the quality of this album"
