"If you already listened to Hooverphonic, this one will be a surprise. They left their trip-hop style behind to record their best known tracks live (but without public) and acoustic. This band is really taking chances, after "Introducing Jackie Cane", a strange concept album, they are once again trying another road. This is what makes this band special!

If you do not know Hooverphonic yet, it will not give you a fair idea of their style (closer to Massive Attack, Portishead, Lamb and early Morcheeba, you should rather try "Blue Wonder Power Milk" and "the Magnificent Tree" if you enjoy trip-hop) but if you like quiet, acoustic music, you will enjoy it.



The voice is incredible, the acoustic versions full of passion, with just piano and strings...



This is the kind of CD you listen too at night."

"I'm not entirely sure where to begin, but let's just say that I felt I had to review this to give it a fair cop. I've listened to Hooverphonic (and plenty of other triphop artists) for a long time.

When I got this I didn't realize what it was -- an acoustics album of old hooverphonic work. Given that triphop is largely electronica with soul themes and vocals, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it.

However, after only one listen I was in love. The pianos and strings versions of classic hooverphonic songs by either vocalist are touching and heartfelt, to be trite. I couldn't believe my ears at the new versions of 'Eden' (off the blue wonder power milk) and 'Vinegar and Salt' (off the magnificent tree) performed with so much passion.

I don't know if I'd recommend this to a new hooverphonic listener; not because it's hard to follow, but because it won't prepare to the upbeat tempos and synthesizer backings of the rest of their work.



When all is said and done I wish I could rate it higher."

No it is not a mistake

"To the moron who stated that listing Hooverphonic with the likes of Lamb, Massive Attack, etc is a "mistake". I like all those groups and they do fit in the same category. THIS ALBUM IS AN ACOUSTIC ALBUM!!!! If you actually listened to other Hooverphonic albums it would be quite clear why they are recommended on Amazon with groups like Massive Attack, Lamb, etc. I have all the Hooverphonic albums and I love all of them. I actually think they are way better than Lamb (that chick's voice is really irritating most of the time). The programming on their albums is intensely layered, the vocals exquisite, the lyrics provocking. So maybe hearing downtempo/chillout music done acoustically is not your cup of tea. I would agree that this may not be the best induction into listening to Hooverphonic. For that, I would recommend Blue Wonder Powder Milk instead.
