CD ReviewsBuy all Houston C.D.'s you Find!!!!!!!!!! Daniel L. Whitaker | Cedar Rapids, IA United States | 05/08/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "Jeff, Lane, and Ian have announced that they will no longer be producing music together. Don't be left in the cold. Purchase any of thier terrific music and experience something special. They combine all of the elements of Failure with a reckless abandon that Failure was never able to capture. These albums are PERFECTLY produced. And, while Overhead, Head Like a Road Map, and Live on Fish Island all meld into perfect albums, Bottom of the Curve incorporates some of these same transitions in a format that promotes stand alone singles as well." Thank God Houston finally hit Amazon radiohum | Kansas City, MO United States | 02/04/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "Houston.... I don't really know where to begin. Their CD's rock, they rock. This is their great third album. Every song is catchy and makes you want to rock out. I know I am saying rock alot, but there is not really any other way to describe them. So basically buy their album and enjoy." One Simple Band ADAM B DADA | Rosemont, IL United States | 08/23/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Houston has been transforming the Chicago indie music scene for quite some time, building a very large following and moving from the smallest venues with 5 fans to the medium sized ones with 500 fans. Their live sessions draw everyone into the deep hard grooves of lead singer and guitarist Jeff Halland. These same groover are softened by Halland's ethereal voice that can pierce bassist's Lane Soderberg's distorted heavy bass lines. Drummer Ian Prince's amazing drums fulfill the trio's rock lineup, and his live performance is characterized by watching him disappear into his own little world. Why talk about a band's live performance when reviewing a CD? This CD captures their live performance completely, while still being a clean studio album. I've listened to this album more in the past 3 months than every other album combined, and it still hooks me in and makes me crave a Houston show. Songs transition into one another with great balance, and build up and slow down with obvious mastery of a great composer.Trying to find comparison's to Houston's style of indie rock is not an easy scenario. Some friends have said it reminds them of Radiohead but with better hooks -- yet not quite the radio friendliness. Others have compared them to D.C.'s Jawbox, definitely a wise comparison as both bands have an edgy Chicago-indie sound. This is the epitome album of post-punk, post-emo indie. The only thing that surpasses it is seeing Houston live! Highly recommended."
