"Houston Person is one of jazz's finest statesman who imbues his music with immeasurable art and soul ... music so ethereal, it transports us away from our mundane routines ... moments lost in the melodic magic of his playing. His voice as expressly sung through his tenor saxophone is impeccable and his delivery on all thirty songs in this compilation is soulfully melodic. He has recorded over seventy-five albums for multiple labels, but this High Note 3-CD set has to rank as one of his most memorable and gratifying.
Collectively, this set has 162 minutes of songs from great composers like Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Duke Ellington, Harry Warren, Hoagy Carmichael, Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein, and others. What makes this collection noteworthy is Person's selection of all but a few of the tracks for this compilation. In addition, Rudy Van Gelder engineered the recording of all these HighNote performances with 24-Bit technology. What we have here then are two master craftsmen engaging in what they do best ... music ... the compositions of these great popular song composers could not have been in better hands ... translated into pure indulgence for the listener ... these are moments to be heartily enjoyed!"
