Great intellectual jazz-funk follow-up

"After the brilliant JazzNotJazz album, brothers Greg (piano, composer) and Pat (vocals, lyricist) Kane returned with Next Move, which has a similar acoustic jazz/funk/pop style and includes everything from one of their best ballads, the piano-led "Pawn of the Weekend" (great lyrics about what divorces do to children) to the frantic "Speed O' Lite". The album also contains an excellent version of Prince's "Sign 'O' the Times", which is completely unrecognizable with Hue And Cry's bebop treatment. Great performances from the Kanes and top drawer musicians such as sax player Tommy Smith, drummer Ian Thomas, etc. A shame the brothers haven't achieved their success of the 80s with the later, more jazzy albums. Hopefully they will return to the recording studio someday, after their decision a few years ago to take an indefinite break from working together musically as Hue And Cry."
