"In case you don't know, Huey Dunbar probably is the most exciting singer in many years. With his former band, DLG, he was the gem in a spectacular ensemble. Their 3 albums cannot be recommended too highly. This first solo disc, though, is not in the same league. It still has Huey, so it is worth obtaining, and it isn't as though the songs are not pleasing. But Huey, DLG, and producer Sergio George previously set such a high standard that this effort falls a bit short. It is because Huey and George are so darned good that I grade them hard. They are capable of the very best, and this isn't it. Still, don't let me discourage you from buying it if you liked DLG or you are looking for some decent Latin music. It's likely you will enjoy it. But lets hope for better the next time out."
I love HUEY!!

"I have been waiting for Huey's solo album quite a while since the breakup of DLG, Dark Latin Groove, and it has been worth the wait. I do miss the voices of Frances, and James, but Huey does carry the band. The song "Yo Si Me Enamore" translated to mean I sure did fall in love, epitomizes how I feel about this cd. I really did fall in love with Huey's voice all over again. His sultry voice is so smooth and sexy that I feel the pain and power of his voice each time he cries each verse. This cd has great promise for Huey, and hopefully will take him to the top. It has rumba, salsa, hip hop and all the ingredients for a great salsa cd. I can't stop playing his other cds, but I know I won't be able to stop listening to this one either."
A one-of-a-kind album....

"I have to say that Huey Dunbar truly made a smooth transition from Dark Latin Groove to his solo aspirations on this debut album. When I was first introduced to Dark Latin Groove, one of the first elements I fell in love with was Huey's beautiful, sexy, expressive and soulful voice. It was comparable to a young Michael Jackson, except more heartwrenching.
There is a wonderful cross-section of sounds here. We have the sultry son ("Yo Si Me Enamore"). the touching ballad ("Con Cada Beso"). and funky hip hop/latin fusion ("Chikicha").
It's a shame that there aren't more people who are familiar with this amazing singer and that he disappeared from the salsa scene after only a couple of years. This is a great album because it appeals to audiences familiar with various styles of Latin music and others who might only know about salsa and aren't aware of the numerous other styles in music.

"Hi there! If you have read the reviews I did for DLG, you will see that I have been a long time fan of Mr. Dunbar, and I have always wondered what he would sound like without the fabulous raps of James and Fraga (from DLG) backing him up......I had the feeling he would be fantastic, and this feeling wasn't unfounded!!! He is better than fantastic......The man has a voice of an angel, for starters.......I mean, when I got home and listened to the CD for the first time, I HAD to sit down.....The quality of his voice is so rich, filled with passion and expression, he transcends any style of music and makes it sound authentically Huey.....He combines a style that is a combo of R&B, salsero (latin chord styles), and crooning with a simply angelic tenor voice!!! Ay!!! Que bonita, Huey!!!! Now, I would like to do a rundown of all the songs: Yo Si Me Enamore--What I loved so much about this song, was that it was very different from the sounds we are used to coming from Huey in the group DLG....they ususally mixed up a lot of different styles, making each song sound totally innovative and original......In the case of this song, he stuck to a pretty straight, slow, salsa style.....I was carried into the clouds by the percussion, the slow, seductive beat, and Huey, mouring the loss of someone he fell in love with....El Herido es tan doloroso, yo se, mi amigo, yo se...:P Con Cada Beso---This song automatically hooked me....I am not used to hearing Huey do ballads.....But this was a great introduction for me into the world of the Huey Ballad!! LOL.....What I mean by that is, a lot of singers--las cantantes latinas---have experimented with slow music, to mixed effect....But in the case of Huey, it works on so many levels.....The slow beat sets the tone for a song with probably one of the prettiest, most romantic tunes I have ever heard in my life!! And Huey's interpretation makes it sound like he is talking to you, and you are the only woman in the room....and he is saying, "With every kiss, I can die of love, with every kiss I can fly the skies...." Man, you cannot go wrong with lyrics like that....I have decided that is my favorite love song!!!! Lo Siento---This is Huey's duet with Lucero, a Mexican cantante....I have to say that he can blend well with virtually any artist, and that is one of the many talents of Huey as a performer...Lucero's voice is lower than Huey's, so in some ways it sounded imbalanced.....But the tune, and his voice transcended the differences in range...... Ella---This is another ballad.....Different in style from "Con Cada Beso," there is more of a beat....Between the beats of the song, and Huey's lovely interpretation, I saw myself flying high above the beaches of la isla tan hermosa de Puerto Rico....he he....and all that was missing was a long, tall ginger ale!! LOL...... Lo Siento---see above for review Chikicha---Man, this song surprised me...I honestly didn't know what I was in for........But it was crazy, cute surprise, for sure!!!!! It has the beats of a dance pop tune, but also reminded me of Middle Eastern Belly music, reminiscent of Shakira's cross-over tune, "OJOS ASI." Very danceable!!!! Amor De Siempre---I think of this song as a standard....Pretty straightforward, and pretty good!! LOL....Straight salsa, no chaser!!! :P Con Cada Beso---This is just as beautiful as the ballad, except with some salsa and R&B beats sprinkled in with a delightful result that is tannnnnnnn sabroso!!! :) Yo Necesito Un Milagro---This song is also sprinkled with Reggae riffs...I think I hear a marimba or something, but I could be wrong....It's really cute though, and the tune is infectious.......I was back, salsa dancing in Jamaica at this point in the album!! :P Yo Si Me Enamore (SON)----This is gorgeous, but with a slightly slower beat, since it was a SON....... I give this five bongos out of four!!!!!! Please buy the album and support this very talented young performer........"
