"I'm really surprised that the Amazon sales rank is still "none" for this album. Less rocking (and less vocal) than Hurtmold's previous album Cozido, Mestro has a consistent jazzy groove based on Tortoise-esque guitar work and an adept rhythm section. Rejecting the soft-loud dynamic often overused by today's more popular post-rock bands, Hurtmold instead creates complex textures using unconventional instruments such as clarinet, trumpet, and harmonica.
Hurtmold borrows handily from American indie rock and Brazil's deep musical tradition to create a unique sound. Imagine a seamless blend of Tortoise, Sonic Youth (sans vocals), Fugazi's jazzier instrumentation, and a dose of Samba rhythm and you're coming close. A superb, very consistent album with high replay value. Support our global indie-rock friends!"
