A glimpse of Hybrid's upcoming second album

"Hybrid's "Visible Noise" single gives us a two-track preview of their upcoming second album, a release which promises to push the boundaries of progressive breaks even further and contribute some dance-floor classics. While their first album, 2000's WIDE ANGLE, was a transcendant mix of their breaks sound with orchestral performance by the Russian Federal Orchestra, the two tracks of this single eschew orchestral flange for deep and menacing beats."Visible Noise", the first track, may seem familiar from its appearance on Satoshi Tomiie's NuBreed compilation from the summer of 2002. The form it appears in here is virtually indistinguishable from Tomiie's preview. "Visible Noise" is a threatening stormfront of a track, constantly rising towards something before backing away. It's a perfect mid-set tune, and can set the energy flowing for a heck of a high point. "Know Your Enemy", the b-side, begins like something out of a spy thriller, but after a few minutes transformed itself into a frenetic stomper something like on Sasha's solo release AIRDRAWNDAGGER. Far from being uninteresting filler "Know Your Enemy" could be used to great effect by DJ's."Visible Noise" is a rather unsubstantial purchase, giving the listener only two songs. If you're not a DJ or a serious fan of Hybrid, you might want to pass this by. However, if you do DJ or collect the work of breaks' greatest duo, "Visible Noise" is a great single that will leave one in great anticipation of the upcoming album."

"I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time to grab this promo on vinyl in September, and let me say I wasn't disappointed (maybe because I had been listening to the bootleg mp3's from the promo since mid July, but I'm not one to brag). Hybrid continue to show us that they are a force to be reckoned with in their newest production. "Visible Noise" comes off as a mean 4 on the floor, hybrid style mayhem: dark, mean and nasty. The flip, "Know Your Enemy" is a stellar nu school breaks track which leans to the more atmospheric side of things. Unlike previous work, the drums don't hit as mean and the track glides along from start to finish. I'm not saying thats a bad thing, its just a nice change from the formula Mike & Chris used to put together "Wide Angle". Never the less, this is a great teaser for whats to come."

"When I received this CD in the mail, I couldn't wait to hear it. It's their first original material since the remake of Kid 2000 with Chrissie Hynde. Both of the tracks on this CD are instrumental. Visible Noise is a trance/prog house tune, with minimal synth work, and some tight 4-on-the-floor programming. It was featured on the new Satoshi Tomiie mix compilation. The second track, "Know Your Enemy," is far more breaks oriented, and features some great stereo stutter edits (in the percussion). This is the one I like to play on late night Highway drives. Can't wait to see what they've done with vocals on the new album. Until then, enjoy."
