Synopsis

Album Description
"IIIrd Tyme Out has their own brand of bluegrass: unmatched quartets and trios, masterful lead singing, dead-on rhythm, tasteful fills, lyrical solos, and great songs. From stage left to right they are a complete band - perhaps the most complete band of the past two decades."-from the liner notes by Chris Stuart

Winner of an unprecedented seven consecutive Vocal Group of the Year awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association, IIIrd Tyme Out balances soul and precision to create bluegrass that is both contemporary and timeless, exciting and emotional. Featuring thirteen classic tracks and two exclusive new recordings, this is the definitive collection from the quintessential modern bluegrass band.

Featuring Russell Moore, Ray Deaton, Steve Dilling, Wayne Benson, and Mike Hartgrove.

CD Reviews

+ 1/2 stars...Excellent Introduction to a Stellar Band
Steve Vrana | Aurora, NE | 04/29/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"IIIrd Tyme Out has been a mainstay in bluegrass music since the early Nineties and the 15-track collection is a nice overview of their career at Rounder. There are two new tracks: A terrific version of the standard "Footprints in the Snow" and the mournful "One Kiss from Loneliness," which shows the versatility of the band.

The remaining tracks are taken from their three studio albums for Rounder as well as one live track ("Erase the Miles") from 1997's LIVE AT THE MAC. The band is blessed with gifted musicians and their harmonies are impeccable--as their a cappella rendition of the gospel number "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" attests to. [Note: Lead singer Russell Moore has been named male vocalist of the year and the band has been named vocal group of the year more than a dozen times by various bluegrass societies.] The band shines especially on the gospel number "Giving My Soul Back to Him."

If you're new to the group, FOOTPRINTS makes an excellent introduction. [Running Time - 50:50] HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
