The Best!

"I love the unusual harmony of Ian and Sylvia. When searching for a good album, I first ended up with one of those "Best of.." CDs. But it was missing some of my favorite songs. Ian and Sylvia's self-titled album has the beautiful "Un Canadien Errant" and the fun "Pride of Petrovar". Don't let those "Best Of" albums fool you! For the best Ian and Sylvia songs, this CD and "Northern Journey" are the way to go."
One Of Their Best!

"This is "one of their best" CD's (or "albums", in "old style parlance"!:o) If you don't know Ian and Sylvia I KNOW you'll like them. Their singing is BEAUTIFUL!

Me and a lady friend were in my dorm room in the 1960's. I was showing off an opera recording I had. As I was playing the record, the tenor hit a high C, I said with some self-righteous arrogance, "See, he can hit a high note. Your folksingers can't do that!" The young lady replied, "Well, I don't care. I like Ian and Sylvia better than any of your opera arias!" We changed the record from the opera to Ian and Sylvia. It was the first time I heard them and they were wonderful! I became a "fan" right then and there. The young lady, you ask--what happened to her? I dunno. I guess she figured she had heard enough opera from me and found someone else! Anyway, buy this album. You won't be disappointed. Email:boland7214@aol. especially if you're the young lady in question! :o)"
So elegant, so different from the Americans

"When first I heard Ian and Sylvia in 1963, I was more affected by their music than by Joan, Judy, Bob....

I fail to see or hear the frigidity ascribed to them. I hear a stalwart passion in Ian's performance and Sylvia's teasing, leading, sexy and, yet, icy sound in some songs, where it was appropriate.

Ian provided a constant beautiful voice, an anthem singer. Sylvia wrapped the harmonies all around his direct delivery of the song. The choice of side men to do the instrumentals was superb.

A while ago, I got all of their stuff again (and Great Speckled Bird, a legend) and the freshness and purity (maybe this is the frigid thing) of their work still moves me 43 years later."
