Who is this for?

"Basically a "best of" from three albums Hunter did for Chrysalis, I really don't understand what purpose this CD serves. If you're a Hunter fan, you are going to get the originals, Particularly SCHIZOPHRENIC and the great live recording WELCOME TO THE CLUB. Both are vital recordings for anybody who wants to get to the essence of Ian Hunter. I'm going to give it two stars for the fact that the songs are good and if you have no clue who Hunter is, it could serve as a sampler, but for you Hunter fans out there avoid this one. It will add nothing new."
Not Bad At ALL.....

"My fellow reviewer, randdand, was RIGHT ON! in his appraisal of "Shades Of." It's a perfect distillation of Ian Hunter's "Chrysalis" years: the almost perfect "Schizophrenic," and the rather drab, lackluster "Short Back 'n Sides." But, really, what makes this CD worth the 5 or so bucks you paid for it is the final 4 songs off the live 1980, "Welcome To The Club." If you know anything of rock 'n roll at ALL, you're already quite familiar with "Once Bitten Twice Shy," "All The Way From Memphis," and "All The Young Dudes." These live versions are note-for-note perfect renditions, and the backing band Ian and Mick Ronson put together for this album, were absolutely the BEST backing band that Ian had had since "Overnight Angels." If there is a Rock And Roll Heaven, though, Ian Hunter's place is MOST assured for the final track, "We Gotta Get Out Of Here." "Out of Here" is, without doubt, the FINEST anti-disco song EVER released. And, hey, a pragmatic recommendation? Buy THIS CD and the (el cheapo-compilation) "Mott The Hoople: London To Memphis," and you'll have a far broader (less expensive!) compilation of Ian Hunter's considerable output than the "Once Bitten" Anthology."
Rockin' Ian Hunter

"A good collection of songs: Songs 1-6 are from Ian Hunter's "You're Never Alone With A Schizophrenic", Songs 7-11 are from "Short Back n'Sides", and Songs 12-15 are from the live release "Welcome To The Club". Two of the live songs, numbers 13 and 14, are from Ian Hunter's MOTT THE HOOPLE band days."
