Best Melodic Metal Album Of The Year!
Priestess Of Doom | Moundsville, WV | 09/12/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Icarus Witch does it again (and then some!) My favorite classic metal masters have done it again. Following up a gem like Capture The Magic is no easy task, but the boys from Pennsylvania do it with authority. Better songwriting, heavier production, more variety of styles, this CD is a must have. Whether you're into the old school stuff like Iron Maiden, KISS & Blue Oyster Cult or the newer crop of hard rockers like H.I.M. & Children Of Bodom, Songs For The Lost is a must have for your collection. Heavy Metal perfection from start to finish!"
Energetic Melodic Metal

"Pennsylvania-based traditional metallers Icarus Witch come screaming (for vengeance) back with their 2007 follow up to 2005's Capture the Magic. This is traditional heavy metal at its finest. Icarus Witch, along with bands like Widow, Viper, Pharaoh, and Twisted Tower Dire, is one of the few bands keeping the old school metal sound alive here in America.

Songs for the Lost is a powerful and melodic heavy metal album that clearly draws influence from Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Dio. It's not at all cheesy or retro though. The energy, songwriting, and musicianship are on par with today's bigger metal acts like Dragonforce and Children of Bodom. OK, Icarus Witch is not as fast as Dragonforce, but they are every bit as energetic and are better songwriters. This album reminds me a lot of Wolf's recent masterpiece The Black Flame, where each song hits like a bullet and lodges itself in your head for days. The whole album is first rate, but the highlight has to be the band's version of Def Leppard's Mirror Mirror, which features the legendary Rainbow/Deep Purple/Sunstorm vocalist Joe Lynn Turner.

I can't imagine any metal fan, especially those who grew up in metal's glory days, being less than thrilled by Songs for the Lost. I'm in love and I've only had it for a few days! Check it out; you won't be sorry!

PS - I had the good fortune to catch Icarus Witch live recently, and as good as they are on their albums, they are even better live. This band has a tremendous energy, and their performance for 40-50 Atlanta metal fans was every bit as intense as you'd hope for from a band playing to a packed arena.
