Since their formation in 1973 the Gambian top group Ifang Bondi have added new dimensions to the music of Western Africa. Digging deeply into the rich musical heritage of the former great Manding empire with its number of cultures, Ifang Bondi created a unique style of African music which they call the Afro Manding Sound, in which traditional instruments like the kora (the famous 21-string harp lute), the balafon (a xylophon) and several African drums (sabar, talking drum, djembe and bugarabu) are integrated in a modern rock band line up with drum kit, bass guitar, electric guitar and keyboards.
