"Like your music raw? Well so do I but this is going too far--the sound quality is so poor you can barely make out the vocals. Put on any Stooges album, stuff cotton wool in your ears and save yourself 10 bucks."

Good Collection of Rare stuff

"If you are a Stooge freak, like me, this one collects mostly stuff you've heard before but there is some stuff that is a little different, like a different version of Open Up and Bleed and I believe the Till the End of the Night is a different recording than the one on Year of the Iguana. The guy who commented on the bad recording quality is correct but you haven't heard bad recording quality till you've heard some of the stuff us Stooge-o-philes will listen to for a taste of something else Stoogey. This one is practically pristine compared to some ot thestuff I've payed more for."

"Out of the fourteen tracks you get here,several of them do sound different from the versions that fans have heard on previous releases.My only complaint is that I wish the sound quality could've been a little better.Most of these cuts sound as if they were mastered off a bootleg recording.But,hey that's okay.Tunes I liked best were "Raw Power","Death Trip",the Yardbird's "I'm A Man",their white trash anthem(sort to speak)"Born In A Trailor" and Cream's "I'm So Glad".For collectors and die hard fans ONLY."

Awesome Renditions of the Stooges' Material

"When I bought this the record store clerk warned me away from it, saying that the quality was unlistenably poor and that I'd better get "Raw Power" instead. As an ardent Stooges fan (who already had "Raw Power" anyway), I didn't let this stop me, but I was a bit nervous when I got home and put the CD in.

Happily, there was no reason for this. "Search and Destroy" is a collection of some truly fabulous material, and I've grown to love it more than any of my other Stooges CDs. The first track, "Search and Destroy", is in my opinion, a far better rendition of the song than the "Raw Power" cut, and from there on out it's all just as fabulous. Iggy's feral baritone growl twists around the Stooges' instrumentals perfectly, and Ron Asheton's guitar work on this CD is amazing - not for technical proficiency, but for sheer brutality and power of execution. Give it a few spins and you'll start feeling like a leather-clad, glitter-smeared rock god. You might even be compelled to do some backbends.

The only reason I give this CD four stars instead of five is that I think you need to already know the songs intimately to be able to listen past the very poor sound quality, And that's sad, because it means that this album is unshareable - i.e. you can't introduce someone to the band with this, some of the best of their material (unless, of course, they're a lo-fi fan *shudder*). It breaks my heart that all this wonderful noise was recorded on such dreadful equipment, because if the masters for this were in good condition, you'd have the #1 Stooges album of all time."
