The virtuosic work of composer Pietro Antonio Locatelli has long been overlooked in favor of other composers such as Paganini. Locatelli, however, composed his capricci eighty years before Paganinis, and Paganini was inspired by Locatellis works. For the first time, all 24 of Locatellis capricci are available on CD. Locatellis capprici are cadenzas featured in the violin concertos which have been written down. They are highly technical and require the most virtuosic player to perform, and are so substantial they serve as standalone pieces. Russian violinist Igor Ruhadze has experience performing the works of Locatelli, as he was featured on Brilliant Classics CD set of Locatellis ensemble music. Ruhadze trained in Moscow, and specializes in historically informed performance practice.
