CD Reviews

Il Divo The Promise Deluxe Edition
TEA | CT. | 11/19/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Boys are back with a new CD called The Promise. This CD is a "Promise Kept" of great new songs that are sung with Il Divo perfection. The music is on this CD is also outstanding.Carlos, Urs, David , Sebby, you are all truly gifted singers. My favorites include La Promessaa,Hallelujah,Enamorado She. The Deluxe edition has two songs performed Live,The Power of Love,Hallelujah and a Interveiw with the Boys. A great new CD to relax and get swept away with. A great collection of songs there is no "weak song" on the Promise. The best CD of 2008."
Great Artistry - Selections a bit below par?

"As a huge fan of Il Divo, this album was a little disappointing in that I can listen to Ancora over and over without tiring of the songs but after two repeats of this album, I must admit I was bored with it. The Albinoni "Adagio" is probably my favorite and it has been for years instrumentally. They have given it a new life and I do love this track! "The Power of Love" is also a favorite, but the rest are just very nice but I can't listen to them repeatedly as I can the other albums. I think the producers need to take a page from the operatic albums and include English translations for those of us who aren't fluent in Spanish, Italian and French. "Amazing Grace" is really well performed and the bagpipes the perfect touch, however, I can only listen to a hymn twice and then I'm done for awhile. I just really like all their previous albums better than this one, however, there is no denying that the four are extremely talented with great voices and a really nice break from the classical music and opera that I always listen to. Now, for the next album, maybe they could try some of opera's great hits! This is worth the price of the disc and I am looking forward to seeing the DVD/CD version I've ordered. I just liked the songs they have chosen on other albums better than this material. However, I hope everyone buys it and it becomes their fifth hit! Their Christmas album is certainly recommended as BEAUTIFUL in the extreme! They have been on vacation a long time and it's great to have them back, even if I can't give their album 5 stars. That is for content, not performance."
Pleasing, but boring at times

"This is my first Il Divo CD to own. I had head of them and was excited to check them out. All the songs on this CD are sung in Spanish or Italian, with the exception of Amazing Grace, which is sung in English. I actually enjoy listening to music in other languages- it allows me to concentrate on the music itself, to absorb it. I found Il Divo's sound to be very soothful and pleasing to the ear. I thought they have a very smooth, melodic sound. My all-time favorite song is Hallejuah. I actually cried the first time I heard this song, and then I listened to it two more times, in a row. I thought it was just pure and simple and absolutely beautiful to listen to. This song alone is enough for me to encourage others to purchase this CD. I did find a few of the songs to be a little on the slow side and slightly too "oper-y" for my tastes. Overall, I liked the CD but did not love it."
