"Noel Akchote, French guitar maestro, has managed to insert himself into some rather outre musical contexts.
Often with startling success.
Which certainly is the case here.
When I think of Akchote, I think of someone like Steve Beresford or Jon Butcher or John Wolf Brennan or maybe Michael Moore--someone willing to insinuate himself into the most out there project conceivable. Yet someone who always manages to conjure something worthwhile.
This trio project, featuring veterans of musique concrete (keyboardist Luc Ferrari and percussionist Roland Auzet), combines, uniquely, the musique concrete aesthetic with free improv. The results, amazingly uniformly high-quality, mark this as almost a new kind of musical endeavor, what Ferrari dubs "new, real-time concrete."
There are few referents to this kind of thing, but perhaps Brennan's new project with Christy Doran and Patrice Heral, Triangulation, comes closest.
In any case, entirely worth checking out."
