Bach: Sonatas
G. Corazza | Johannesburg, South Africa | 07/29/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This has to be the best recording ever of the Bach sonatas. Viktoria Mullova is, as always, magnificent and she has superb backing by Ottavio Dantone. Highly recommended to all lovers of Bach music and, especially, of Viktoria Mullova."

"I have never heard the Bach sonatas for violin and harpsichord played better. The performers are very much synched into the period performance style. The recording is so beautiful that if you have a very good set of headphones and close your eyes, you will think that you are in the same room with these two musician. I just does not get any better than this.

This recording is on a small, independent label. I would try to get it right away if you want the actual compact discs. Classical performances are frequently going to downloads when the first run of discs is sold out. The packaging is also very classy. It is in a digipack with notes. Very well produced!!! Do not let this one get away from you. I have noticed that harpichord recordings do not stay in the active catalog for very long. Try to get most of the harpsichord recordings of Kenneth Gifford, Blandine Verlet, Davitt Moroney, and others (even on the major labels). It is really an acquired taste for modern listeners. If you like this kind of music and want to own the physical disc, buy it now!"
