Album Description2010 release. The chamber music sonatas written by Johann Sebastian Bach and featured on this recording are in actual fact transcriptions: BWV 1038 was originally written for flute, violin and bc. - the other three works were written for viola da gamba and harpsichord. This production features the use of a lute harpsichord, an instrument that Bach himself owned around 1740. This harpsichord had catgut strings instead of metal strings. This recording features a replica instrument built by Keith Hill (1993) and, compared to the harpsichord, its sound provides a particularly successful blend with the viola da gamba. Ekkehard Weber and Robert Hill are both early music specialists. Ars Musici.
