Better than the previous release, Jones is cutting his chops

"The JW Jones blues band delivers 14 tracks of big-band blues with Jones leading the crew with a Stratocaster in tow. As his third effort with the Northernblues label; the guitar playing is solidly proficient when he actually takes a solo but the vocals are lackluster at best. I really would like to hear Jones holler and belt out the tunes, but he seems to be taking a laid-back approach. The album seems too over-produced, and would benefit greatly from a few weeks down in the Juke Joints of the Mississippi delta. Jones has a way to go as an experienced Blues musician, but is respectably cutting his chops and building his reputation through frequent touring of the United States and Canada. I would definitely recommend this album if you like Otis & The Alligators, or the later (seventies) work form the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. All content copyright www.maximumink.com"
