Fronted by ex-Bar-B-Q Killers' Laura Carter, like Patti Smith and iggy Pop in the same pair of pants- Jackonuts have the rhytmic aptitude of The Birthday Party or Scratch Acid and the gorgeous melodic sense of Sonic Youth or Come. CD ReviewsAn overlooked gem Daniel Brockman | Boston, MA | 03/01/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "The Jack'O'Nuts, on the surface, appear to be not unlike countless early 90's atonal indie bands with Albini ties. However, I really feel that On You was a milestone in 90's guitar rock. The singing of Laura Carter is a bizarre beat poetry, not unlike the mannerisms of Jesus Lizard David Yow. Her interaction with the band is explosive, this is confrontation guitar rock at it's finest and most confusing. For all the grating and shredding produced byt he friction of the players, there is a grace and beauty that is shambling and awe-inspiring; by the last track, "Starbane", you the listener are reduced to a puddle on the floor. Even today this remains an album I listen to constantly and will always continue to derive pleasure from. If you like this one, be sure to scour the earth for their early singles, all are real finds if you search the cut-out bins."
