"When I was a kid "Running On Empty" was one of my favorite albums. But for some reason I never purchased, or even heard, JB's other records. But, after listening to "Late For The Sky", I realize what a mistake that was. I love "Before The Deluge" as well as the title track and "Fountain Of Sorrow". But really every song is good. David Lindley and Browne make beautiful music together and the introspective lyrics are top notch.



I still like "Running On Empty". But it is clearly a more commercial endeavor, with the conventional repeated choruses and catchy hooks. On the other hand, this album rewards you with something new each time you listen to it and contains a depth and artistic integrity all too rare in mainstream recordings.



I never thought of JB as being on quite the same level as Springsteen. But now my mind has been changed and I can't wait to check out Browne's other albums. This is great stuff and you gotta give it a listen!"

"first album I remember listening too that showed me that songs did not have to follow the three minute radio format to be popular, that some brilliant songwriter could actually sing,and that intelligent music could actually be in the mainstream with out apologizing for being self absorbed.This is Jackson's best album by leaps and bounds. I don't think he ever even tried to ever match the supernatural spirit and dark beauty that rings in every song on this album, and flows like a river from one song to another."

"My personal favorite Jackson Browne song is on this album - The Late Show. I think of The Late Show as being the predecessor of Sky Blue And Black, love both songs, but The Late Show will always remain my favorite. This album is wonderful from begining to end. For A Dancer - one of his best ever. Late For the Sky - I sing that as loud as I can rolling down the highway. Haven't we all been there? Trying to feel something we no longer feel? On this album Jackson excelled in his songwriting. His collaboration with David Lindley was excellent on this album too.



Jackson Browne has stood through time, some people say he makes them depressed when he sings -with me it is the complete opposite, no matter how bad I feel, hearing his songs always make me feel better.



Before The Deluge(I call it the anthem) ends this album and can very easily be an anthem for today - the song is timeless - and then you have that beautiful screaming organ...



Who writes songs like this today?? Songwriting at it's best. This would be a great first album to get into Jackson Browne with.
