"Jah Wobble has kept some classy company in his lifetime. He's collaborated with Holger Czukay, Brian Eno, and Bill Laswell; Jaki Liebezeit frequently plays drums on his recordings; he was arguably the most important piece of the original, highly influential Public Image Ltd. 20+ years ago.Has Wobble grown as a musician? Has he grown in stature to the point where he can be compared to those he has collaborated with and been infleunced by? I'd say definitely, yeah. The music hereon has to do mostly with pulse and with texture (like the music of Wobble's hero Lee "Scratch" Perry, whose aesthetic I hear ringing around in here). It incorporates numerous "world" influences, i.e. musical forms and motifs from different parts of the globe - but it doesn't incorporate them in a cut-and-paste manner, it gently slides them into its own flow. This is good stuff, particularly the first two tracks. It's modern music but it seems to have more of a purpose and more diversity of sound than much of the other modern electronica being made these days. Hats off to Jah Wobble."
