Another one of James' underrated albums

"James Ingram's 1986 album Never Felt So Good was underrated and overlooked. I like it mainly for Always, one of his best songs between Just Once and his later hit I Don't Have the Heart. It has such a driving groove and the keyboards sound so smooth and funky on there. The other numbers show James maturing more and more as a solo artist as he was one of the best male singers to come out of the '80s."

"I happen to agree with the person who feels this album was highly overlooked and underrated. I agree 100%. The first single "Always" is one of his strongest cuts. My favorite song however is the ballad "The Wings Of My Heart". I don't understand why this album hasn't been made available in record stores. It's better than alot of the material he put out in the early 90's. When this album first came out in '86, I rushed to the Wiz to pick it up. This album is a definite must-have for anybody who truly appreciates real singing talent, not people who just sound good through studio engineering."
The bombastic production leaves much to be desired.

"As was the case with most post-1983 R&B albums, James Ingram's "Never Felt So Good" features overblown and bombastic production. Yes, the club-friendly dance tracks sounded impressive back in 1986 but lack the soulfulness found on Ingram's 1983-issued "It's Your Night" album. The gorgeous ballads "The Wings Of My Heart", "Love's Been here And Gone", "Crazy" and the mid-tempo groover "Always" are fine vehicles for Mr. Ingram's powerful and soulful vocals but the other tracks are unredeemed and remain mediocre at very best."
