"On this little remembered gem by Jane Bunnett and associates one can experience the whole of the Brazil/Cuba music phenomenon without the sickly feeling you've dealt with it already on a coffee-house sound system. Indeed her judgment in material and arrangement practically guarantees this form of Latin-jazz will remain off limits to tropic beat dabblers, and that is unfortunate insofar as sales are concerned. If you've read this far, however, you are probably already aware of Ms. Bunnett's wonderful projects involving talents such as the monstrous pianist, Hilario Duran (now her certified music director), and the Machado brothers Celso and Filo who are featured on Rendez-vous. Filo is a guitarist who contributes flowing melodies and wordless vocals to the album, while Celso hits all manner of percussive devices to great effect. This is seriously light music that will buoy up your mood without harming your reputation as a deep listener. Just look for her name on the cover and you've got something marvelous."
