Torsten Harder - cello Inspired by a passion for the near and far, Helsinki Project is the incarnation of Jason Carter, a British guitarist, composer and producer. Carter's clever combination of musical cultures creates an aesthetic that propels the listener into Jason's nomadic lifestyle. Hosting an array of talented musicians from across the globe, the album portrays not only Jason's bond to far away lands, but also the importance of his home; Helsinki. The album includes famous name including Paleface (Finland's answer to Tim Westwood) and Iiro Rantala (experimental jazz pianist). Helsinki Project has no agenda. No manifesto. It is quite simply a conceptual celebration of culture, embodied by one Englishman, with a passion for travel and friendship. Stylistically, the album could be described as World Dance, but is influenced heavily by Drum n Bass, Breakbeat, Bhangra, Jazz, Classical, and Middle Eastern flavours. Quite intelligently, the album references both culturally and musically, everything from Faithless to Bach.
