"Jay Z's new album has already been released like two weeks ago here in Europe and I bought it without even listening to it. When I first put it in my stereo I thought that it was horrible, but after all I was totally wrong. The songs get better the more you listen to them and after a while you just can't stop to sing along and bump your head to this cd. I think Jay Z did a good job on this one (as on all of his Cd's) and especially "Big Pimpin" and "Come and Get Me" are really cool songs. Once again Jay Z is reloaded."

Untalented rapper produces sub-mediocre rap cd

"This new CD from Jay Z is an attempt to make a hit record that can be played on the radio... (see Exibit A B and C: "Do It Again" repetitive BS, and "S.Carter" with this whiny voiced little girl, and the last track, an attempt to redo what he had with "hard knock life" a cheesy broadway song mixed with rap.) Then there's his songs where he wants to be a tough guy, talking about killing indiscriminate people. Does the world really need this negativity? I think not. The beats, lyrics and song concepts for this CD are terrible. It appears to have been recorded in one or two weeks and put on the shelf as soon as it was recorded. No Longer to rappers care about quality on their releases; they'll throw ANYTHING on the record store shelf and expect the stupid public to buy it. Don't let rappers like Jay Z insult you by buying trash like this album which has maybe 2 good (decent) songs. Jay Z put NO effort into recording this dreadful CD.It would be rude for me to insult this release without giving you some other options.... Try the new 2Pac & Outlawz CD "Still I Rise", Pastor Troy "We Ready I Declare War", Eminem "Slim Shady LP", Dr. Dre "2001" or Nas "I Am" .... those were the GOOD CD's of 1999. Commercialized trash that glorifies murder over wack beats accompanied by wack lyrics are not worth buying. **DO NOT BUY** DMX "And then there was X" or Jay Z "vol 3"... these CD's stink like yesterday's manure and seem as though the artist recorded them in a few weeks putting every song they made on the final CD. Jay Z and DMX will only get music fans support if they put some effort into their final product!"

"There was a lot of hype surrounding the release of the Jay-hovah's new album, and rightfully so considering that he is one of the greatest lyricists out there. His album does not disappoint. It is very much like his other albums where the beats and background music are at times awful, but Jay-Z lyrics and style come through and make the song. At times one gets the impression that Jay-Z could rap without a beat and the song would still make you bob your head. Jay-Z is that good. Another great thing about the album is the lack of silly and useless interludes that break up the flow of the music (ala Puff Daddy, Dr. Dre, or almost anyone else). It was refreshing to have a continuous flow of 15 or so songs (plus "hidden" bonus tracks) without comedic interruption. The Jay-hovah is all business. One criticism I have of the album is the lack of faster paced songs that would facilitate dancing or fast driving. While Jay-Z's rap might increase in speed, the beat stays the same. Overall, the album eclipses any of the other hip-hop albums that have been released this year despite the forgettable beats."
