CD Reviews

Solid EP release from Jay Z's mentor.

"This is Jaz's last album on EMI and the last before his protege, Jay Z blew up with Reasonable Doubt. Jaz has a fast but smooth flow and rhymes over beats from the 45 King, Xtra P and others on this EP release. If you can find a copy definitely cop it. When you hear Jaz rap you can tell that Jay Z modeled his style after Jaz's, but their styles grew in different directions over the years. They collaborate on the last cut on this album. It is a shame they didn't do a full length together as their flows complement eachother very well."
Jay-Z's Blueprint?

"Jaz,back in 1991,was a very promising young MC.He could flow fast like Treach or smooth like Kane, get lyrically intricate like Kool g rap,or even sing a little like Candy Man?A versatlie MC,Jaz's mesh of styles was very late 80's/early 90's.This was before Onyx helped to obliterate one of rap's eardrum and psyche. If you was from Brooklyn back then, you knew that Jaz was an underground lyrical legend like Lord Finese. His attempts at Rap stardom can clearly be shown on the "Ya don't stop"EP."Sign of the Crimes"is an uptempo 3-verse story detailing the wrongdoings of a hustler named smooth{smooth tha hustla?}and his wife."Hypocriters"is a self explanatory joint also told in detailed fashion and produced by Large Professor."A Groove"is a very well produced laid back smooth joint that every rapper seemed to have back in the day.You could just hear the word "smooth"in every rappers'vocabulary back then. It's all good though."It's your Nature" finds Jaz explaining why certain kinds of people such as,Cops do what they do.The very last song features an appearance by the one and only Jay-z,where he claims to use a....get this..."PEN and PAD"
"Ya don't stop is a very solid EP from the MC who claimed to have given birth to Jay-z's Blueprint."
