I HEARD NAT GONELLA

"This is a good selection of Nat's recordings, but I wish a little more trouble had been taken by the compilers. There are some rare tracks here, but there is no indication given of recording dates. The only rough guide to help the listener is as a small alphabetical legend on the back cover, (e.g. (A) - With his Georgians, etc). Now this may perhaps be sufficient for the seasoned collector, but it offers little enlightenment to the casual purchaser.
To compound the felony, Tony Watts' liner note advances the old canard that the West End dance bands were incapable of playing jazz, mainly because their rhythm sections were unable to swing (I'm paraphrasing). This myth would be rapidly dispelled by exposure to the recordings of (for example) Jack Payne, Ambrose, Lew Stone, Roy Fox and Ray Noble, but if purchasers read such arrant nonsense they may well be discouraged from buying further dance band recordings, which would be a great pity (and their loss).

""Stormy Weather",played by Nat Gonella was one of my first records, in 78RPM,
and now, to have the possibility of hearing that music, which is laying
inside of me, after all this years, is marvelous. I thank, with my heart
AMAZON for the possibility they bring to me of rememoring my youngness.
Amazon is the best provider of new and old tunes, and I love it.
Thank you a lot
