Synopsis

Product Description
Jazzheads - Avant Wot Not (1k) The first standard-issue CD on Tim Motzer's label 1k. Recorded in December of 1998 and re-released in the fall 2008 to celebrate the bands 10 year anniversary-- and-- with the added promise of some long-overdue live shows. This 10-track effort (made up of Brooklyn super jazz drummer Ari Hoenig, Philadelphia guitarist/composer Tim Motzer, saxophonist Chris Cuzme, and bassist Ben Bocardo) is a nimble, all instrumental excursion into the disparate corners of all that boogies, simmers and swings, from acid jazz to improv, from drum n bass to funk. The playing in dizzyingly fine throughout. But what's most compelling about avant wot not is its unhampered sense of fun, an up vibe that carries listeners over some rough compositional patches and murky stylistic transitions. Back in their heyday Jazzheads headlined Toronto's Acid Jazz Festival, NYC's the BellAtlantic Jazz Festival, the Welcome America Festival in Philadelphia (where they opened for the Sun Ra Arkestra), were regulars in NYC/Philly clubs and a huge hit on college campuses on the east coast. They won the Philadelphia City Paper's Music Awards Best Jazz Performer of the Year 2000 for their album 'Avant Wot Not'. This Philly-NYC classic re-release of 'Avant Wot Not' gives first time listeners an opportunity to hear what this band was all about back in late 90's....Finally, you'll have your chance to have this CD in your collection or buzzing away in your ipod. Pick it up and enjoy.
