"The voice of the French chansonnier Jean Ferrat will always possess the power to enchant me. So warm, deep, velvety and sympathetic. But Jean Ferrat never sacrifices his musical integrity to commercial aims. On this disc the listener is provided with several beautiful 'Chansons d'amour' written by Ferrat himself, the poet Louis Aragon, Claude Delecluse and Guy Thomas. I think that at least a passive knowledge of French is required to understand and follow these songs adequately. Jean Ferrat recorded the poems by Aragon previously on the 'Ferrat chante Aragon' disc. The versions of the three poems by Aragon: 'Que serais-je sans toi', 'C'est si peu dire que je t'aime' and 'Aimer `a perdre la raison', which are included here date from the 1980's while the original Aragon album was recorded in the 1960's. Jean Ferrat is the ideal performer for these poems set to music. His warm, tender and clear delivery (I could follow the text and each nuance perfectly) displays the whole gamut of emotions which are expressed in the poems. Louis Aragon's three poems are artistic highlights and beautifully performed by Ferrat. But I also liked his own tender and gentle 'L'embellie', 'Ce qu'on est bien mon amour', 'L'amour est cerise' or the joyous 'Chante l'amour'.



A beautiful and exquisite disc, which I recommend very highly!

"Hearing Ferrat's great CD "Ferrat95" in an Austin Southwestern restaurant opened a window into other French singers like Mireille Mathieu and Edith Piaf. While "Les Plus Belles Chansons d'Amour" does not match "Ferrat95" for me, it is still very good and I find myself playing it a lot. If you enjoy these French songs d'amour, I do recommend this. Now, if only I spoke French..."
