""Sings The Gospel" One of Jeannie C. Rileys finest albums. Originally titled "From Harper Valley To The Mountain Top" through MCA/Songbird. Jeannie released this album in conjunction with her best selling autobiography also titled "From Harper Valley To The Mountain Top" The re-release titled "Sings The Gospel" is misleading, though spiritualy underlining in it's theme. It's hardly what you would call a gospel album. It's more driving country with a pop sound that appeals to all music lovers. The first song and initial single release "I Don't Have To Die To Get Into Heaven" is an infectious song that'll have you humming it over and over, with a hard driving country sound It's Jeannie C. Riley as we've should have heard her all along, heads and shoulders above many of her early hits. "Safely In The Arms Of Jesus" another awesome cut from Jeannie C. once again sung with razor edge crisp vocals, the country overtones of this song makes it a classic from Jeannie. "Look Down" Jeannie's own composition and concert favorite is an upbeat song that'll make you want to crank it up a little louder and louder each time you hear it...a fantastic cut! "You're My Best Friend" Jeannie takes this Don Wiliiams hit and takes up another notch making it all her own. "Bigger Than Any Mountain" maybe the most "Gospel" sounding song from the album... even at that it has a hard driving beat with pop underlining. "Lemonade" another of Jeannie C. own compositions with it's cleaver lyrics top production and Jeannie C.s awesome vocal performance it's no wonder it's a fan favorite and highly requested song anywhere she played. "I've Got It All" A beautiful performance and top notch production shows Jeannie C. Riley at her best...can't be outdone! "Taking A Walk In The Sun" A fast past song once again showcasing Jeannie C. Riley with the style of song that always works for her...you can't help but sing along. "God'll Get You For That" What a great addition to this album, with a feel good message that applys to everyone who hears it, with Jeannie's outstanding vocals and a country sound that is all Jeannie C. Riley you can't help but love it. And finally "From Harper Valley To The Mountain Top" Jeannies own composition about her life is a highly moving majestic soaring performance...that should've been(and almost was) a theme to her lifestory in a movie. It's is Jeannie C. Riley as we should have heard her her whole career, and this one of the few times she had control of her product... just shows just what could have been if she had only been allowed to do it her way. This album stands as one of Jeannie's very best albums of her career... really out shining many of her hit albums of her early hit making years. No Jeannie C. Riley fan or any music lover really should be without this album in their collection... We just wish there would have been many more like this album... Nominated as best Contemporary Christian album by a secular artist.... it's easy to see why!"
