Synopsis

Amazon.com
Recorded live at Indiana University, Jeff Foxworthy delivers rapid-fire, joke-after-joke anecdotes about the pitfalls of family life. Foxworthy's in-laws, wife, and kids are a source of endless problems and amusement, creating familiar scenarios everyone can laugh at whether they have a Southern background or not. The huge gulf between male and female methods of communication ("I know what women want, they want to talk"), the dangers of taking the kids down the cereal aisle at the supermarket, and the ever-lurking toilet paper shortage are but a few of the "joys" of married life he good-naturedly skewers. Foxworthy also does a few virtuoso vocal bits on language, mimicking the typical stock-car driver's unintelligible remarks after a race (in "Jeff Gordon Enunciates") and, of course, a few more examples of what it takes to be a redneck, his most famous routine. --Wally Shoup

Familiar and funny, Foxworthy fans will recognize most of the skits but they never seem to lose their humor. Worth adding to my Foxworthy collection.

Not Too Bad, But Get Others First

(3 out of 5 stars)

"I picked this CD up only because I've loved Jeff since I bought "You Might Be A Redneck If..." his greatest album. On this album, he strays from the whole redneck thing (finally) and pokes fun at his wife's family, NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon and many others. For the most part, its a funny disc but maybe, "Mid-Sized Funny" would have been more appropriate"

"Sorry, but I'm counting the stars that this CD deserves. Jeff Foxworthy is the undisputed king of the redneck joke (heck, he INVENTED it!), but on this album he strays...sort of.Of course, everything Foxworthy does is going to revolve around rednecks. He IS a redneck (I am to, in spirit if not flesh). He can turn the most mundane thing (a "peanut-butter-and-jelly-sandwich") into a laugh-fest. He recaps his childhood with wood burning kits, comparing them to the safety of modern children's toys. (If you are from that time period, you will probably relate; if you are not, and this is where I fit in, you will simply laugh at the logic of it all.) Foxworthy plays on words, tells us what we don't need to know (you'll agree, especially if "your grandparents haven't retired from EVERYTHING yet"), and gives a warning to all the men: you are being trained! The differences between men and women become apparent on this album, as Foxworthy tells us his life of living with a lot of girls (young and old). He recaps a few mishaps involving his in-laws, cracks on Jeff Gordon, gives us some valuable information on the African tsetse fly, and tells of a true situation involving a beaver, a man, and the man's nipple ("the only time the newspaper article could have the words beaver and nipple in the title and no one would be offended by it!").All in all, Foxworthy deserves a place in our cars, stereos, or wherever you plan to listen to this record. He is a truly funny man, with a talent for making you laugh that has kept him out of getting a "real job". Whether it's rednecks or beavers, Foxworthy knows the humor in it all. Just a little warning before you buy "Big Funny": The laugh factor is way, way high!"
