Synopsis

Album Description
EXPERIENCE DEEP MEDITATION Clinical studies conducted in cooperation with the Dalai Lama at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's W.M. Keck Laboratory recently found that Buddhist monks in states of deep meditation attain a particularly high state of consciousness with a unique high frequency brainwave pattern. This research supported the clinical findings of sound healing pioneer Dr. Jeffrey Thompson, who had measured these states more than 10 years earlier and named them HYPERGAMMA. The Gamma Meditation System 2.0 uses cutting-edge audio technology to help you access the same extraordinary brainwave state. Subtle pulses of HyperGamma brainwave frequencies woven into a multi-layered musical soundtrack engage your own brainwaves to "lock on" to these HyperGamma waves and move you easily into a state of deep meditation, enhanced focus, awakened insight and inspiration.

CD Reviews

Inspiring, music to open your mind

"This technology incoporates and uses waves that already exsists in your mind and enhances your ability to get to this state throught music and incorporating this wave into the music. It essentially trains your brain and you to be able to go to this state whenever you would like. Gamma waves are known from the monks and are known with higher thinking, open mindness and more connection to emotion and nature as well as DEEP relaxation. I use this cd on a daily basis and when i use it i feel more relaxed and intune to the world.

I am not a very spiritual person and my take on trying these albums was on the scientific view and fascination with brainwaves and if it would work and boy does it. I use some of Jeffrey Thompsons other cd's in my preschool classroom and i notice a relaxing affect or that the students sleep longer. You will not regret buying this cd or any other by DR. thompson."

"I am both an audiophile and a brainwave entrainment enthusiast (I just made the latter term up). I bought a pair of AKG K702 cans specifically for meditation. Although I'm not an advanced meditator, I listen very carefully for the effects of binaural beat entrainment on my mood, and I'm always searching for the best products of this type. I've had experience with Holosync, Hemi-Sync, and many other lesser-known vendors of this kind of stuff. Some really do work better than others, while others are just flat out bogus (and there are countless numbers of those on the Internet). There are only a handful I really like, my favorites being the products of Immrama Institute and Dr. Jeffrey Thompson.

I won't get into the science of binaural beat entrainment but I will say that Gamma Meditation 2.0 (and indeed Thompson's work in general) is extremely effective at its intended purpose. Thompson is a pioneer in brainwave entrainment research, and is the one who discovered Epsilon waves (slower than Delta, less than 1/2 Hz per second), among other things.

It has been my experience that the choice of "music" as overlay for the binaural frequencies has a substantial impact on the effect of the entrainment process. If the sounds are bothersome, it will affect your perception and minimize the results. If the listening experience itself is pleasing, however, you will not put up resistance and the brainwaves will synchronize much better. Thompson's CD's would be nice to listen to even without the underlying frequencies, thus I look forward to the experience every time I go into it. I would describe the music on here as "mysterious ambient" - slightly with an eerie sound to it, but not quite dark ambient.

Gamma Meditation System 2.0 is one of the best programs of this type that I've heard, and certainly the best for achieving gamma brainwaves. In just a few minutes I feel much more relaxed and aware of my surroundings. If you're serious about brainwave entrainment, Jeffrey Thompson's work should be part of your repetoire."
The best Thompson CD that I own

"I own the following CD's by Jeffrey Thompson.

Ocean Waves - Alpha frequencies

Sleepy Rain - Delta Frequencies

Music for Brainwave Massage - "balancing frequencies" aka, they ain't saying

Theta Meditation System - Theta frequencies

Healing Mind System - a blend of frequencies

Gamma meditation - gamma frequencies

Also

Unwind - a collaboration with Silvia Nakkach and Jeffrey Thompson - alpha frequencies

Breathe - a collaboration with Jorge Alfano and Jeffrey Thompson - alpha frequencies

I learned to meditate by enrolling for a meditation-based stress management class. The technique used in class was guided meditation where the instructor helped the class through a series of relaxation exercises prior to the meditation session. We would focus on our breathing to enter the meditative state. After eight weeks of class (and plenty of 45 minute practice sessions at home), I was reasonably proficient at meditation on my own using the CD we'd received as part of the class.

Three years passed. Stressful years. By now, I'd memorized the CD from the class. I could time my breathing to the pauses between instructions on the CD. Hence my search for a little variety in my meditation practice.

I found Dr. Thompson's CD's and they were helpful from the first. I've always been able to meditate using these CD's. However, a few of his CD's raise the bar and routinely produce meditative states that are deeper, easier to attain and more relaxing afterwards. The Gamma meditation CD is THE best one I've tried. It produces the most profound, calmest meditative state I've ever attained for the longest periods.

Other effective CD's (in no particular order) include

Healing Mind

Theta

Music for Brainwave Massage

These three CD's are easier to use and I usually have a enjoyable session. The music in Gamma Mediation isn't the easiest to listen to, this may make it more difficult to enter the meditative state.

I have more difficulty using Ocean Waves and Sleepy Rain. Perhaps this is because the repetitive sound is a little too boring and I fail to focus properly. Ah, yes, you have to be both focussed and relaxed to meditate well. That's why classes are helpful. Otherwise, we'd all be meditating.

I find I can meditate to Breathe quite well but prefer to play it as background music in my office. As for Unwind, I just don't like the music."
