"OK, this is a stunning, if uneven third album from Jennifer, with highlights being the single "Heart on the Line" and her remake of "Givin' Up" (first made famous in the mid-70s SPARKLE movie sung by long-lost diva LONETTE MCKEE!)...BUT WHY WHY WHY hasn't Geffen re-issed Jennifer's SECOND full album, "HARD TIMES FOR LOVERS" on CD since her other two are re-issed on CD? This is really tragic, since album tracks like "JUST A MATTER OF TIME" contain some of Jennifer's most relaxed, confidence, & downright SOULFUL vocal performances - PLEASE Geffen re-issed this sophomore CD for the FANS!! I have it on LP, but it's worn out & scratched by now - who can forget "Hard Times for Lovers," "No Frills Love," etc - Arthur Baker's mid-80s production really rocked the house!! -"

"There is one reason only to buy this album, the reason of course is that it's by Jennifer Holliday, perhaps the most overlooked female singer around. In my opinion : The Greatest Female Singer around. Just listen to 'Read It In My Eyes' & 'Givin Up' (need I say more). This Lady just sings with emotion, she's awsome."

"UP until now I've only had the memory of ths work of art to live on. The pure joy I get to just hear that voice! "Get close to my love" was released in "1988" and was the last effort that "jen" did for the Geffen label and I must say that the material is just as good now as it was then. Of course back then all we had was cassettes but now that I can own it on c.d. makes me feel that much better. I'm not going to say that this is "jen" at her best; but if she don't get any better I will truly be satisfied with this. Notable tracks are "givin up","He ain't special","Read it in my eyes",and "Heart on the line". As you listen to the latter pay close attention to the background vocals! AHH! The girl can blow! In closing I will say that if you are a true, diehard fan of "jen" you must get this and put it on your shelf! ASAP!"
