A bit disappointing but occasionally spectacular

"Jenny Evans has the best set of pipes this side of June Christy, whom she vocally resembles. On songs that Christy did like "Softly As In A Morning Sunrise," the similarity is most noticeable - and is wonderful. Unfortunately, Christy had Pete Rugolo and Bob Cooper to arrange her albums for her, while Evans is backed by a fairly bland quintet, which emulates 50's cool jazz backings. Still, the title song is worth the price of admission as are a few others, such as "In a Mellow Tone." I would love to hear this singer with a band behind her arranged by someone like Johnny Mandel."
Fabulous music by a extraordinarily musical singer

"Jenny Evans has a gorgeous, perfectly on-pitch, clear, unpretentious style of singing that is perfectly matched to the pieces on this CD. Her version of "You go to my head", in particular, is absolutely riveting. You can't go wrong with this CD if you appreciate the best in jazz vocals by a singer who deserves much greater exposure and recognition."
