Pop riffs undergird rock, country & blues sounds

"Historians of science and historians of music both know the dirty little secret of civilization's advance: that inventive things never happen at the center; they happen at the cultural crossroads. The best philosophy, science, and music develop when previously separate schools combine and cross-pollinate. The results can be great: algebra, Christianity, and rock-and-roll are disparate examples of the power of the periphery.Jennyanykind may not rank as high as any of those three developments, but it's still a pretty good band. Drummer Mark Holland says, "Were just a good American rock 'n' roll band; we play blues and country and jazz and it's all in there together." Well, sure. That's an accurate assessment of Jennysaid. What do you call music that features pop riffs, rockabilly instrumentation, driving percussion, and the kind of throwaway lyrics that precocious college kids toss out on whisky-soaked nights? Hard to categorize, but easy to listen to, "Big Johns" feels like an album that will hold up over time and may even become an obscure classic."

"I remember watching Jennyanykind play in a bar in Baton Rouge and when they took a break in between sets I drunkenly told them, "Play number 8 from Big Johns, that song rules!" The brothers were nice enough to open the next set with number 8 from Big Johns and I've been a fan of this album and band ever since. This music is pure and good. The album is interesting and fulfilling. It's great. I'm amazed that so few people know about Big Johnds and this band. If you like good music, you will never be disappointed with this album."
