CD ReviewsWorthy and unthought of collection of rock and roll. Luisito Joaquín González | London, United Kingdom | 11/08/2003 (4 out of 5 stars) "Jerry Fuller is most famous for being a talented song writer, however in the late fifties/early sixties, he did indeed cut a few singles of his own that were pretty good. "Betty my angel" is probably about the best of the fourteen tracks and sounds uncannily like Bobby Vee's Devil or angel, even though that was probably only a coincedence because Vee's single was released the following year. Jerry Fuller got revenge by making "Shy away" sound almost identical to the more popular singer's style.
It should be noted that Fuller deserved a bigger following than he actually gained as a singer, he wasn't a bad vocalist and although his hits were not exactly chart busters - his biggest was "Tenessse waltz" at a lowly #63 - he did cut some decent songs. Perhaps he wasn't original enough to gain more attention, or perhaps tastes were just a little too fickle at the time, but he did indeed deserve more success than he earned. I definately recommend this collection of catchy tunes to fans of the 'age of innocence'. You'll be pleasently surprised by the quality of the tracks featured. Enjoy..." |
