"Congo rates as one of my favorite movie soundtracks of all time, the African rythms, beats, and chants are just awesome, I cannot listen to this soundtrack without chills going up my spine, despite it's short length, the soundtrack is very powerful, especially "Spirit of Africa", "Bail Out", "Gates of Zinj", and "Kahega", the African drums and other instruments will have you tapping along, and bobbing your head, and if you are like me, even singing along with the chanting, lol, if you are a fan of African music, GET THIS CD!, it is also interesting listening to this CD while reading the book, a highly-recommended soundtrack, once again, if you are a fan of African music, do not hesistate to pick this up!"
Another African Trip For Goldsmith

"In spite of the fact that "Congo" is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, Jerry Goldsmith has managed to create another score that is better than the movie itself. Once again, Goldsmith created one of his best main titles for this film with 'Spirit Of Africa', this time he is joined by Lebo M, the same African artist who contributed with his magical chants on the soundtrack for "The Lion King". As with "The Ghost And The Darkness", Goldsmith fancies African rhythms that fit perfectly to the soul of the movie, if it ever had one. The action music is fantastic, especially 'Bail Out', 'Hipo Attack', and 'Amy's Nightmare'.
It's too bad that this good piece of music was written for a terrible movie. However, Jerry Goldsmith knows how to make his music stand on its own."

"Goldsmith does a marvelous job, once again! The only complaint I have (and it's certainly not with the music, thus the 5-star rating), is that on my copy of the CD the tracks aren't listed in order anywhere except the disk itself. It's as if the studio didn't bother with a final edit on the disk's packaging materials - a real shame given the quality of Goldsmith's writing and of the performers."

Goldsmith has a flavor of music....

"that is never the same. Maybe it's because he does so many different film albums (unlike Horner and Williams' music, which is, in many occasions, almost identical. Here Goldsmith uses a Saharian flavor and lot's of child chorals to express an ingenious harmony (with many notes and vibrant instruments used in The Ghost In The Darkness). CONGO, however short (only 30 minutes) and irritatingly labeled (the CD's tracks are listed on the back in total disarray), the music is timeless, a word so often accociated with Goldsmith's work."
