"People label this Latin Jazz. Labels! Hah! Labels are for foods! Maybe they call it Latin Jazz because Jerry Gonzalez is Latino, but in reality, what is contained within this CD is a truly wonderful jazz ASSORTMENT. That's right, an ASSORTMENT of jazz stylings, all of which are sensational. Slow, dreamy "mood music" type jazz, as on A FLOWER IS A LOVESOME THING, DANCE CADAVEROUS, and RUBY MY DEAR, a more contemporary "urban" type of sound, like the background music on the "Cosby Show," on GIVE IT SOME THOUGHT, SO NEAR, SO FAR and HEIDI HO, to an exotic African-style beat on JUNGLE PLUM, to a sassy Latin Jazz sound on GONZILLA and MIDNIGHT TRAIN, which would be my favorite track on this disc if I had to choose one, because, for me, that's the song that started it all. That was the first Jerry Gonzalez/Fort Apache band song I ever heard, the one that prompted me to buy this CD. It's a catchy, stick-in-the-mind tune that one finds oneself humming all day.
I say, BRAVO!"
