Synopsis

Album Description
The new Jesse Colin Young Greatest Hits Plus Three New Songs is far superior to the previous (1998) Greatest Hits package. Not only is teh digital remastering beautiful, but the original members of The Youngbloods appear on the new tracks! I am the Executive Producer of both recordings and I tried to make the new 2001 release better than the old 1998 release. Thank you.

Blast From The Past With Some Great New Material
Nicholas | Sacramento, CA | 03/20/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I was not really familiar with many of the songs on this compliation, my JCY experience being limited to what I used to hear on AM radio and the "Light Shine" LP, but neverthelss found this to be a very enjoyable listening experience. The various songs really showcase JCY's many musical styles and versatility. The liner notes provide brief but intimate insights into the joys and tragedies in JCY's life that inspired many of the songs. Be forwarned, however, that "Get Together" and "Darkness, Darkness" are not the original recordings. They have been updated and have a different sound, which personally I found to be refreshing. I also really liked two of the three new tracks. "Dreams About You Baby" has some great blues guitar, and "How Long" is also bluesy with more of a rock and roll feel to it. On the updated and new songs, JCY's voice reminds me of Dan Fogelberg, not that that's a bad thing, just an observation.I gave this CD four stars instead of five, mainly due to the absence of "Grey Day". I don't know if it was ever a "greatest hit" (or even a hit of any kind), but is one of the best songs ever recorded by JCY, and ranks right up there with "Ridgetop" in my book."
