"The Sex Album is listenable yet challenging, serious but frolicking, and of course, always horny. It manages to visit several different moods without falling too far into self indulgence and it never beats you over the head. Fans of electronica will find a refreshing new perspective on a genre that has seemed somewhat anemic of late, though you can be a fan of any type of music and enjoy The Sex Album immensely."
Definitely worth picking up, if even just for the novelty.

"Rising amidst controversy and not-so-subtle advertising, Jessica Vale's "Sex Album" separates itself from the standard loops and samples which most musicians use to compose an album, and instead relies on a unique source of sound, one maybe a little bit more sensual than the cold, unfeeling industry norms. The source? Recordings of people having sex (including Ms. Vale herself).
While this resource is not entirely obvious to the listener due to digitized manipulations, there is a palpable underlying theme of eroticism. Even though using carnal devices isn't the newest thing in the audio industry, the album as a whole is a novel approach to making music simply because sex encompasses the entirety of the album, not just one track or one sample.
The songs range from spoken word diary-ish stories to relaxed singing to ambient soundscapes, all with their own unique sense of sound. The lyrics revolve around sexual content and fit very well into the flow of the tracks they're in. The pacing of the album is also very well done and one will have a hard time saying that there are lapses in musical energy, especially considering the music's source.
For being an experiment in music (and carnality), the "Sex Album" came out pretty well and is definitely worth picking up, if even just for the novelty. Final score: four out of five habanero peppers.

Avant-Garde Experimentation

"For a CD made completley out of distorted, twisted sex sounds, it's not as smutty as you might think. This album plays with the subtle emotions surrounding sex, rather then sex itself. The entire CD is an extended metaphor for sex. The amazing thing is, I don't think Jessica uses the word 'sex' once.
The songs are twisted, distorted and often bizarre. Yet, everyone will connect with the deeply sexual element of the album. When Jessica explains her first sexual experience on 'Sweet 16', I feel as if I am there. The backdrop is filled with faint skin-on-skin sounds, slapping, thrusting, crackling, breathing, grasping, all concucted into a single, continuous yet vague beat. That's how real this album is. No pornography, genuine real sex.

""Ambient" in the fullest sense of the word, this album is sensual, dark, romantic and sneaks right under your skin. It's beautifully crafted, and straight-up delicious as a bite of an apple from a forbidden tree. In nostalgaic moments, this album reminds me of (much better produced) early Curve or Slowdive. Vale's voice is expressive and teasing, reminiscent of Jennifer Charles (if you're reading this you probably know her work fromm Elysian Fields). I like to listen to it late at night - but I think it would be perfect for seduction, dancing around, background to writing an ex a scathing email, relaxation, or other things not appropriate to mention here. It's a promising debut, fresh and authentic and a definite buy if like me you are nosing around for musical nourishment in a culture of predigested pop. Just be warned you'll be waiting for the next one with great hopes! I can't wait to see how the artists behind this album will develop. Definitely one to get, don't let all the sex press fool you. These guys know what they are doing!"

"Trust me, this is worth the press it's getting. I figured it was junk. It's not. It's fantastic. Experimentation, in all its forms, always deserves a showcase. This time, it gets a CD. Pick it up."
